From legs and toes to arms and nose anywhere can be waxed!
Velvet Patch freelance waxing comes to you centring around South Notts where all prices are inclusive of travel. Velvet Patch recognises that good waxing is hard to come by and is also happy to travel to you if you live further afield. Prices are salon competitive even with a reasonable travel charge - see bookings page for further details.
Wax Why
Waxing is an easy and thorough way to get rid of unwanted hair. It involves removing hair from the actual
root resulting in a silky, smooth finish that lasts from 3 – 8 weeks. What’s more the more you take hair
out at the root, disturbing the ability of the hair follicle to regenerate the thinner and sparser the hair
grows back, resulting in needing to wax less.
Clients wax for a variety of reasons from improved feel, sensitivity and appearance, to sports, hygiene and healing benefits.
And don’t assume waxing is for a specific client type either – waxing really is for all and all are welcomed at Velvet Patch!
Wax How
Waxing involves applying a coat of warm wax on the skin which is then removed, taking the hair with it.
Waxing has been around for centuries but rest assured waxing products have come a long way since the
ancient use of sugar and lemon juice and new techniques are now used to minimise discomfort.
Velvet Patch uses two leading industry waxes – a strip wax from Perron Rigot and a non-strip wax (sometimes called hard or hot wax) from Berins.
Both waxes are new generation French waxes developed by Count Christian des Garets who is responsible for introducing Polymer into depilation products and revolutionising the waxing industry. Both Berins and Perron Rigot waxes are far superior to other waxes:
in their composition – they are warmed on low heat, creamy in texture, with polymers that make the waxes more pliable and less sticky than traditional waxes.
in the way they are applied – using a technique that that ‘shrink-wraps’ around the hair only, resulting in targeted, easier and more comfortable removal – perfect for sensitive and intimate areas.
in the results they achieve – successful at removing coarse, stubborn hair and by not attaching to the skin, resulting in little or no irritation. Many clients not even exhibiting temporary raised follicles, a common and normal response to waxing.
and just to note whilst these waxes have a premium wholesale price tag – they still come to you at a salon competitive rate.
Wax Know
All clients react differently to waxing depending on skin type, pain threshold, even time of the month. Any
discomfort is very short-lived and certainly lessens with each visit (.....and easily forgotten when the
benefits of velvet smooth skin are being enjoyed!).
Clients must ensure hair growth is at least 5mm to maximise results – about the length of a grain of rice. Clients are also advised to exfoliate and moisturise in the run up to a wax to maximise results – also recommended regularly to discourage ingrown hairs.
Other things to note include:
- Waxing can cause tenderness and raised follicles, particularly on first or irregular sessions. This is normal and again very shortlived. You’ll be given further aftercare treatment and advice at your appointment.
- Loose cotton clothing is recommended to help keep waxed areas cool.
- Clients should bathe prior to waxing (avoiding all lotions and potions) as hot baths are not advised after treatment.
- After treatment clients are advised to keep newly waxed areas as clean and cool as possible to minimise infection risk. Sunbathing, saunas, steams, swimming, exercise (including sex if intimately waxed) should all be avoided for 24hrs – sorry!
Wax Off
All clients will undergo a consultation on their first visit to ensure potential contra-indications are
identified and appropriately acted on. There are however certain situations/scenarios where waxing will not
be able to take place, these are outlined below and new clients will be asked about this when making their
first appointment. Waxing cannot take place if the client:
- Has a skin disorder, infection or swelling in area(s) to be waxed
- Is epileptic, or haemophiliac
- Is on/has been on steroid, retinoid or anti-coagulant medication in last 6 months
- Is allergic to rosin/reacts to sticking plasters
Additionally
- Anyone 16 yrs or under will require parental consent and presence
- Clients must be 18 yrs + for Brazilian/Hollywood waxing
If in any doubt or wish to discuss any concerns please do not hesitate to give Sal an informal call.
Wax Appeal
In order to get the maximum benefits from waxing and go for maximum hair-free periods, clients do need to
persevere and remain wax loyal – it promises to be worth it!
Hair grows in different stages and your first few sessions will be spent getting your hairs in-sync and
moving in line together. This will ensure hair grows at the same rate and can be removed at the same rate,
thereby maximising your hair-free periods.
(...think movement precision of Riverdance!)
Shaving completely undermines this chorography; cutting hairs above the surface and promoting uneven
growth.
(...now think prancing prowess of David Brent!)
So, however much a pain re-growing for waxing is, however tempted you are to pick up the razor again...please don’t be a slave to the shave!
